Next Week:
Math: We will be reviewing on Tuesday for a quiz on Wednesday. It will be over lessons 1-7 through 1- 10. Adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals will be on the agenda as well as
continued work on problem solving!
Science: Experiment #3 will be conducted on Tuesday, and then we will be diving into three new body
systems! Get ready for the skeletal system, the muscular system, and the nervous system!

Remember...pictures are next week on Wednesday. Also, the kids will be canoeing that day! They are to bring old clothes, old tennis shoes, and a life jacket if they wish. They can also bring an extra set of clothes just in case their's get wet! We will have the kids change out of "picture clothes" before they go canoeing!!

Science: Complete vocabulary drawings
Study for the Lesson 2 quiz using the book, the study guide, the science packet, and the
vocabulary booklet. This quiz will use the same format as quiz 1.
On Monday, Mr. Nelson, our new superintendent, came to speak to the entire 5th grade class about beekeeping. Mr. Nelson received his doctorate on the subject and pursues it actively as a hobby. The students really enjoyed seeing the bees and learning how they help our environment. Many questions were asked and Mr. Nelson even brought some of his equipment and put it on display in the school foyer. We really appreciate him taking the time out of his busy day to share with us!
Reminders...1) Tomorrow is bronco pride day. Wear your school colors! 2) School pictures are next Wednesday. 3) We are still in need of one chaperon to go on the science center field trip. Please contact Mrs. Mick if you are interested!

Thank you for sending a drink with your child to school today. The kids enjoyed celebrating the reaching of their class Dojo goal with a treat during morning class!! Please encourage your child to keep working on earning those positive Dojos. Remember you can monitor your child's progress on the Dojo system by signing up using the code you were given at the back-to-school conference!

This week we will be celebrating homecoming! We will attend a pep rally on Monday morning to get us excited for the week of festivities. We will also enjoy a parade on Friday before the big game! Each
day the students will be encouraged to participate in homecoming by dressing to the theme. Here is a
schedule of the themes:
Monday - backwards day
Tuesday - favorite sport day
Wednesday - pj day
Thursday - dress up nice day
Friday - bronco day
We look forward to a fun week of activities!!

Math: Monday we will be reviewing for a quiz over lessons 1-1 through 1-6 and then quizzing on
Tuesday. Please help your student study by looking at worksheets from the 6 lessons and the
mini-quiz from last week. Focus on place values from hundred millions to thousandths, comparing
and ordering numbers, place value patterns, and solving problems (break information into two
categories, "What do I know?" and "What am I trying to solve?". We will then move into adding
and subtracting mentally as well as rounding whole and decimal numbers!
Science: Monday we will be experimenting using the microslide viewers! Your student will be looking at
voluntary muscle cells, smooth muscle cells, and heart muscle cells. Lesson 2 focuses on body systems including the following: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and excretory! Hopefully
we will be ready to quiz on this lesson by Friday!!

Math: We will take a mini-quiz on place values from hundred billions to thousandths, comparing and
ordering large and decimal numbers, standard form, word form, and written form on Monday.
The rest of the week will be spent on place value patterns and problem solving strategies. I hope
to prep for the quiz Thursday and quiz Friday!
Science: We will conduct our second experiment which deals with cells and tissues of animals. The
students will get another opportunity to use the microslides and microscopes to observe cells.
Lesson two will then discuss multiple human body systems including circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and excretory.
Ask your student about the cell rap!!! Cells, cells, they're made of organelles!!!
