I wanted to let you know that I have been out with pneumonia all week until this afternoon. I appreciate the patience the children showed while I was gone. Thank you to Mrs. Lovegren for stepping in and keeping the show running while I was down and out!
Reminder...There is a math meeting tonight at 6:30 in the high school auditorium. Please come with any questions or ideas you may have to make our transition into the new series more positive and effective for our students. Thank you in advance for your attendance and positive energy.

**Grade reports were sent home today with the most up to date grades for your child in math and science. They are to show you, have you sign them, and return them to school on Monday! I wanted you to know what the grades were prior to coming in for conferences. I asked each child to circle any grades lower than a C- on the grade sheets (69% or lower). They are to explain to you that any homework other than quizzes, tests, and projects are able to be corrected for an increase in scores/grades. If you and your child are unhappy with their grade, simply have them correct the homework that doesn't have the type of score you would like and have them turn it in for re-correcting! This encourages better learning and better grades!

*The students are making models of cells. They have been placed in small groups and assigned either a
plant or animal cell. They have brainstormed with team mates to determine how they are making the
cells and what each child needs to bring from home. If you can't send to school what your child asks
for, brainstorm with them an alternative that they can bring. It would be very difficult for the group if
your child promised to bring something and shows up with nothing. They are really looking forward to
this project!!

Parents: I want to put out a quick note about the math. I realize some of the students and you as parents are frustrated with the "new" math. Please do your best to be patient and realize that any change requires time to work out the kinks. Since it is so early in the school year, we need to give ourselves time to adjust. My suggestion at home is this: Spend a few minutes only per problem, write something down that shows you have attempted it, and move on. I will work with the kids here at school to correct things. Don't let it turn into tears, anger, or frustration for any of you at home. Also, if you get in a real bind, you may call me at home for help. My number is 641-923-3409. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me to discuss them. I am here to help! Thank you for your support of your child and their education!!

WELCOME TO 5TH GRADE!!
We had a great first day. The students were energetic and full of great attitudes! The kids got an opportunity to meet all of their 5th grade teachers, organize their classroom materials, and participate in a community improvement project.
My homeroom, Mrs. Kern, and I walked to River Park and pulled 3 giant garbage bags full of weeds out of the landscaping bed right by Kum and Go! Man, did they work hard! A huge thank you to Mrs. Kern for walking with our class and helping us work! Teamwork is awesome no matter if you are a teacher or a student!
There was no homework given today in my class! Enjoy your evening! I'm looking forward to working with you and your child this year! Give me a call, email, or note anytime you have any questions or concerns!

Congratulations, everyone!!! Today was the last day of 5th grade for our students! It has been a great year filled with lots of learning and laughter. It has been a pleasure to work with your children. Thank you to them for all their hard work and to you, the parents, for the support and dedication you give them on a daily basis! Parenting is a tough job that you don't get credit for often enough, so please know that I appreciate all that you do for our/your children!
I encourage everyone to have a fun filled summer, and that some of that fun include reading and some type of math practice! There are a ton of internet games available that make the practice fun! Be creative!
Please be safe and I look forward to seeing the kids next August! Take care everyone!!!

Reminder...Weather permitting, the students will be going fishing tomorrow and Thursday for PE. They must wear appropriate shoes (no open toed shoes) and are welcome to bring gear from home if they choose (the school will provide equipment and it is not necessary for the children to bring their own). It should be lots of fun!

Reminder...It is Memorial Day Weekend, so enjoy your vacation day on Monday! We only have 7 days of school left! Please encourage your child to work as hard as they can until the end!!! We still have a lot of learning left to accomplish!

If you are planning on eating lunch with your child that day, the cost of an adult ticket is $3.20. Please have exact change if at all possible!
