Our MAP testing is done for the fall.  Thank you to all the students for trying their hardest to make improvements!  

Our Halloween movie was a success!  The kids enjoyed their snacks and drinks as they watched The Croods!

Reminder...Tomorrow is Halloween.  Your child is allowed to bring a snack, a drink, and a pillow for our movie!  We will not be dressing in costumes.

Reminder:  We will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday afternoon in our classrooms.  Your child can 
                  bring a drink, snack, and pillow for our party.  They will not be dressing up in costumes.

Second Quarter began today!  Grades were due yesterday and will be mailed out sometime later this week!

Homework:

     Math:  None  The students took their math MAP test today in the computer lab.  Ask your child if their
                           score increased, decreased, or stayed the same from last spring!!!

     Science:  None

Reminder:  There is no school for students on Monday, October 28th!  Enjoy your three day weekend!

We will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 31!  The celebration for 5th graders includes watching a movie and bringing in a snack/drink to enjoy during it.  Please allow your child to bring a drink and snack of their choice for the party.

     Science:  None

Next Week:

     Math:  We will be working on estimating products, the distributive property, and multiplying whole
                numbers!  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, work with your child at home with multiplication facts if
                they do not know them automatically!  It is crucial at this age that they know the basic facts!

     Science:  During our weather unit, we will be exploring air pressure, water in the air, evaporation,
                   condensation, and types of clouds.  Our first lesson quiz will be Monday, November 4th.
                   Look for a study guide near the end of the week.

Reminder...Tomorrow is "socks-on-the-outside-of-pants" day!  School picture retakes are coming up.  Please ask your child to see the note they were given about it!

MAP testing for 5th graders will begin on Friday of this week.  We will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week.  There will be no school for children on Monday, October 28.
Please encourage them to do their best, get plenty of sleep the night before, and eat a good breakfast before coming to school on those days!

The students have until Friday of this week to turn in any corrections on daily work for improved scores towards their grades.  First quarter grades are due Monday morning!!

Homework:

     Math:     None  (Please ask your child to show you their math unit test!  They got it back today!)

     Science:     Vocabulary definitions for 6 new words on C64 in their textbooks!

Reminder...It is Red Ribbon Week.  Tomorrow is "boot" day!  

Picture retakes are on November 5th.  If you want your child's picture retaken, please return the old pictures to school with your child and have them hand the photographer those right before the new picture is taken.

Homework:

     Math:  None!  If you are looking for a way to help your child in math, you could work multiplication facts 
                           with them!  You can do this nightly until all their facts are automatic!!

     Science:  Study for the chapter test!  Knowing the vocabulary words and how to label the parts of a cell
                   and the systems would be very helpful!!  Please use the study guide, book, vocabulary booklet, 
                   and any old quizzes or worksheets to study!!

Reminder:  It is Red Ribbon Week!  Today was hat day.  Tuesday is "ugly tie" day.  Wednesday is "boots" day.  Thursday is "socks-on-the-outside-of-pants" day.  Friday is wear red day.

The end of the quarter is Friday of this week.  If your child has any daily work that they would like to make corrections on and turn in for more credit, please encourage them to do this prior to dismissal on Friday!

Homework:

     Math:  Study for the Chapter 1 Unit test.  (Use the review on p. 52 and 53 to practice.)  This test is
                tomorrow!

     Science:  Study for the Chapter 1 Unit test.  (Use the study guide that was handed out today and the
                   science book to study.)  This test is Wednesday!

Homework:

     Math:  Begin studying for the Chapter 1 cumulative math test on Tuesday October 22nd!  This will be
                over all 15 lessons!

     Science:  Begin studying for the Chapter 1 cumulative science test on Wednesday, October 23rd!  This
                   will be over all three lessons!

Our field trip to the science center was a huge success.  We learned a lot and had a lot of fun.  Please enjoy just a few of the many pictures we took throughout the day!

Next week:

     Math:  We will be reviewing for and taking the chapter 1 cumulative test.  Our focus then shifts into
                multiplication.  Specifically, we will do work with multiplication patterns and estimating products!
                Please work with your child at home on basic multiplication facts if he/she does not know them
                automatically.

     Science:  We will be reviewing for and taking the chapter 1 cumulative test.  We are then moving into
                    weather!  Weather systems will be the first lesson!

Reminder...We are going on our class field trip tomorrow to the Science Center of  Iowa in Des Moines. Please send a sack lunch and drink with your child.  Any electronics or cameras that are sent are done so at the risk of each individual.  If your child brings a phone with a camera, please let them know they are not to be making phone calls, texting, or using internet with that phone.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  

Reminder...There will be no school on Thursday of this week due to staff professional development.

     Math:  None - Friday quiz over lessons 1-11 through 1-15  Do some studying!!!

     Science:  Vocabulary pictures AND Study for Friday's quiz!  A detailed study guide should come home
                    this evening with a science book.  The kids have three nights to study.  Please be prepared!

                about it (adding and subtracting decimals)!

I apologize for a lack of a blog for the last two days.  With conferences on Tuesday after school, and my being away at a meeting yesterday, I didn't get messages out for a few days!  I'm back with a lot of information, though, today!

Reminder...Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for this evening from 4-8PM.  We hope to see everyone there.  Thank you to those families who stopped in to see us on Tuesday.  These conferences are unscheduled.  Please stop in at your convenience!

Homework:

     Math:  None

     Science:  Word Search and Fill-in-the-blank diagrams for BOTH  muscles and bones!!

Check out the kids using these large puzzles to practice muscle and bone placement in the body!!  It was sure a lot of fun!  A huge thank you to Mrs. Kern for sharing her puzzles with us!  We greatly appreciate it!

Reminder...Next week, Wednesday, October 16th, the entire 5th grade class will be heading to Des Moines for our Science Center field trip.  It will be an all day affair.  We will leave shortly after 8:15 and return before 3:00.  Please send your child with a sack lunch from home that day.  We will eat at the Science Center.  

Reminder...It is another four-day week for the children next week.  They will be out of school on Thursday due to a professional development day for teachers!

Next Week:

     Math:  Next week will be a week full of reviewing and quizzing/testing!  The first two days will be a 

                review and quiz over lessons 1-11 through 1-15.  The second half of the week will be a review 

                and test over all of chapter 1!

     Science:  We will also be finishing body sytems with a review and quiz on lesson 3.  Please be prepared 

                    to study for two nights next week and quiz on Friday!  A study guide will be coming home with

                    your child to help them prepare!

**Reminder....parent/teacher conferences are tomorrow from 2-6pm and Thursday from 4-8pm.  You
    do not have a scheduled time for your 5th grader.  You come and go as you please to the teachers you
    would like to conference with.  Conferences should last about 5-10 minutes per student per teacher!

     them how many Dojo's they won for their review!!!

     Science:  None  -  We started our muscle experiment today!  Enjoy some of the picture of us measuring
     our muscles!!
